Reflections on ENGAGE: Intentionally
Published in News
A week after the event, it's easier to gain perspective on what our ENGAGE: Intentionally salon meant as a formal kick-off to our year of engaging with ideas.
To demonstrte that, we celebrate our post-event for PACE: Impact Beyond Speed with this short video shot by our main stage photographer, Scott Blasken, during the initial talk by Julien LePage. We kicked off with a dynamic shared drumming activation, demonstrating that "pace" takes many forms...

For us, it's a rare thing to have one hard-working event photographer capture another having a moment of pure, raw, fun... that's what makes this such a delightful discovery when we were checking photo sets and saw this one of long-time volunteer and true TEDxCalgary friend Scott Blasken. He has captured more iconic images for us over the years with his masterful eye.than we can count, so our thanks to the About Love Photography team for this one!
Joining us this year as a first-time partner was About Love Photography Services, who were at our event to capture images of our Interactions Partners, participants, and volunteers!
They did an exceptional job and captured anamazing set of photos... thank you!!

Our deepest appreciation to the Calgary Public Library for their encouragement and ongoing support of our programming efforts in so many different areas. They have been am excellent and steadfast partner since our very early days.
Special mention has to be made about our community salon series. Pre-COVID, three times a month, nine months out of the year, we held small gatherings of curious Calgarians at library branches in downtown (New Central Library), the Southeast (Fish Creek Library) and the Northwest (Crowfoot Library). We watched a pre-recorded TEDTalk together, and dove deep into conversation on what it means for us as engaged citizens, and the wider context of Calgary. For us, that was a fundamental building block of our helping to build community.
As we slowly emerge from COVID, we hope to resume a new series of programming opportunities with the Library. Stay tuned in 2023!

Exploring a traditional, healing form of dialogue about how we can better share the surrounding lands and understand the reality of First Nations trauma within our current society. Garret utilizes his experience growing up in Treaty 7 territory, the lessons he learned from the Elders, his time spent in prison, the issue of Universities, and the life-changing path he found in acting that lead him to help himself become a better father and do what he can to help his people heal.
